The Palace Theater has gone dark since the stay-at-home order was imposed by Gov. David Ige to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
The doors are closed, but the theater leadership continues to work and looks forward to the day when the Palace can again welcome people back.
So the 95-year-old theater is sending out an “S.O.S.” The “S.O.S. Supporting Our Survival” fundraising campaign runs through midnight today. Palace Theater board president Wendy Peskin said in a news release that the goal is to raise $30,000, which would help sustain the theater’s reduced operations budget for two months.
“That means we need about $15,000 per month for payroll, computers, phone/internet bills, utilities — everything that keeps ‘the lights on,’” she said.
There also is a monthly donor challenge, hoping to get 30 monthly donors to help keep the Palace going.
“Your donation today helps us survive until tomorrow!” Peskin said.
