Cynthia Jean Cerny, 61, of Pahoa died March 8 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, she was a claims specialist with the county of Hawaii. Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Survived by sisters, Lynda (Steve) Hirakami of Kalapana, Adele (Tim de Silva) Cerny of Hilo, Stephanie (Robert) Bishop of Poland, Ohio, Joyce (John) Clark of Fremont, Ohio, Patricia (Doug) Cushard of Niles, Ohio; brother, John (Terry) Cerny of Jeromesville, Ohio; nieces and nephews. Iva Rogers Black Goldman, 88, of Hilo died March 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, she was an associate professor of communications at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, where she taught for more than 50 years and served as department chairman, received the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award for Improving Student Life, and was a member of the Church of the Holy Apostles in Hilo. Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Survived by husband, Dr. Mark Goldman of Hilo; daughters, Robin Black of Hilo, Dr. Liat (Thomas) Bearden of Ninole, Sarah Goldman of Orchidland; brothers, Jim Rogers of Grand Junction, Colo., Richard (Sylvia) Rogers of River Forest, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Rogers of River Forest, Myla Goldman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Thomas Ambrose Sullivan Jr., 69, of Honokaa died March 24 at his residence. Born in San Francisco, he was a former real estate agent. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
