The state Department of Health is reporting 34 new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus as of noon today, bringing the statewide total of cases to 258.
According to DOH, Hawaii County has 18 cases, three of them new. That is three fewer cases than was reported earlier today by Hawaii County Civil Defense. A possible reason for that discrepancy could be counts of confirmed cases vs. so-called “presumptive positives,” which have not yet been confirmed by the DOH.
The City and County of Honolulu, which encompasses the entire island of Oahu, accounts for the bulk of the cases, 182 overall, with 25 newly reported.
Maui County has the second-highest number of total cases, with 26, an increase of one case over Tuesday’s total.
Kauai County has 12 cases, none of them new.
There are five positive tests pending geographical identification by county, five of them newly reported, according to DOH figures.
Fifteen cases, or 6% of the statewide total cases, have required hospitalization, including two new cases.
Statewide, 69 COVID-19 patients have been released from isolation, including 11 of the newly-reported cases.
The state recorded its first COVID-19 related death Monday night, that of an elderly Oahu man with multiple health conditions, who had tested positive for the virus after being admitted to an undisclosed medical facility.
More than 80% of the COVID-19 cases statewide are residents returning from locations outside the state of Hawaii, officials said.
