Food, not banners
I have not pulled papers to run for the Hawaii County Council District 1 seat, so our council bank account is yet to be set up. However, I humbly ask that no contribution be made to my political campaign.
We WILL NOT be accepting financial contributions for the upcoming 2020 elections.
Instead, please consider making a donation from your family to the COVID-19 Pandemic Response Fund of The Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank, and not to my political bid in 2020.
The coronavirus pandemic is going to get worse before it gets better. Families are in need.
People are losing their jobs, and many are having their work hours cut. Our island economy is headed for some challenging times.
In the 2012 election, our grass-roots campaign spent approximately $28,000. How much food can $28K buy? It certainly bought a lot of campaign banners, T-shirts, bumper stickers, campaign gifts and political signs.
I cannot see raising $28K from supporters to have “YAGONG” plastered all over our community while people are and will be going hungry. Families cannot eat political banners, T-shirts and signs.
Many of my supporters are living paycheck to paycheck and yet willing to give a little to help with my campaign. Thank you, but please consider supporting food-insecure families in need.
There are those who can weather the pandemic and will give donations to candidates they support. I humbly request that your thoughtful contribution not be to my election bid. Instead, please consider helping our island families by supporting the The Food Basket’s COVID-19 Pandemic Response Fund.
I will figure out a way to get our message out without accepting any political donations. Our people’s well-being must always come first. Your consideration would be greatly appreciated.

Ban all travel?
If the governor of our state would have locked the entire state down and not allowed travelers to come to our islands, and if he had stopped people here from traveling, this wouldn’t be happening right now.
It’s upsetting that they’ve decided to still let travelers come to our island, but have to get quarantined. What good is that? They will still be here and infecting people.
Stop letting people come in, and save our people from spread of coronavirus.
