Police say a hit-and-run collision occurred involving a car and a motorcycle during peak morning traffic hours this morning in Puna.
Capt. John Briski, the Puna Patrol Division commander said the collision between a green Saturn sedan and a motorcycle occurred at about 6:45 a.m. on Highway 130 at the intersection of Kaloli Drive in Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. According to a police statement, the sedan was traveling south on the highway and was in the process of making a left turn onto Kaloli when it struck the motorcycle, which was traveling north on the shoulder of the highway.
The driver of the sedan left the scene without stopping to render aid or provide information.
Briski said the motorcyclist was knocked to the pavement by the collision, but added, “He’ll be fine.”
“He was up walking around at the scene, but he did go with medics to the hospital,” Briski said.
Asked if it victim called in the report, Briski replied, “We had numerous calls. Because of the time of day and the traffic, we had lots of calls.”
According to Briski, none of the callers were able to give dispatch the license plate number of the sedan.
Police are investigating the collision.
