The state Emergency Management Agency and county Civil Defense will conduct siren testing between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday at Carvalho Park in Hilo, Naalehu and Makuu Drive and 6th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Nearby residents may hear the siren sound at 30-second to 3-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include short blasts known as “burps.” During the tests, Emergency Management officials and technicians will be checking the functionality of the sirens.

These sirens were repaired and updated as part of the state’s ongoing maintenance.
