Full Life Hawaii, Abled Hawaii Artists, East Hawaii Cultural Center, Kozmo Mimzi Theater and The New Alchemists are proud to announce the second annual Live Aloha Art Festival scheduled for Jan. 10-12, with public workshops beginning Jan. 6.

The festival features live music by local artists, new plays created by a diverse ensemble of community members and students from Waiakea High School and University of Hawaii at Hilo, a short film festival, puppetry, visual arts and conversations that build community by celebrating the rich and complex identities of Hilo’s residents. All programs are free.

During the week leading up to the festival, festival artists will lead community workshops in songwriting, community-engaged theatre making and puppetry. Although some workshops will be on closed campuses, the puppetry workshops offer a unique opportunity for community members to build large-scale festival puppets leading up to the second annual #Puppets4Peace parade on Friday, Jan. 10, in downtown Hilo, culminating at EHCC with a special guest appearance by Gamelan of the Molten Blossom and wontons from Any Kine Wontons.

This festival is a collaborative effort to increase the number of ongoing, creative projects that help make downtown Hilo a more vibrant city center for the entire community. The festival actively instigates exchange and collaboration between artists of different disciplines, with a focus on emerging and nontraditional talent such as support for the talented and differently abled artists participating in Full Life programming.
