Hilo Toastmasters recently presented awards to several outstanding members.

Doug Twilligear is Hilo’s Outstanding Toastmaster for 2019. This award recognizes one member whose club accomplishments, service, dedication and enthusiasm are exceptional.

Twilligear joined Hilo Toastmasters in 2019. He has been an enthusiastic club officer-sergeant at arms. He has made helpful suggestions and implemented them regarding the club’s connection with the Wailoa Center. He has gone out into the community promoting Toastmasters communication and leadership skills to youth. He also participated in the Area 12 Table Topics Speech Contest.

Twilligear brought guests to Toastmaster meetings and gave many club speeches, also filling in when necessary.

He joined Toastmasters in Las Vegas in 1990. In 2003 he was an area governor. Twilligear has held all club offices except vice president of education.

Joanne McCabe was awarded the Member Appreciation Award for Outstanding and Dedicated Services.

McCabe fills the “administrative assistant” role for the club voluntarily. She is a longtime member of Hilo Toastmasters. Dedicated and reliable, she makes sure the club runs smoothly and members are taken care of.

New Hilo Toastmasters member Kapaelani Comstock received two Member Appreciation awards.

She received the first for community outreach for setting up a lunch and learn event called “Communication Information and Tips You Can Use” that was presented in November at the Hawaii Innovation Center in downtown Hilo. The second award was for communication and leadership sharing for recruiting two new enthusiastic club members within her first 90 days.

Club president Keith Kuramoto also presented an award to new member RosaLei Quinting-Androyna, who received a Hilo Toastmaster Member Appreciation Award for Communication and Leadership Sharing. Quinting-Androyna stepped up to the role of acting vice president of public relations.

She was recruited by Comstock.
