A 31-year-old Laupahoehoe man is facing charges of second-degree assault and felony domestic abuse in connection with an incident that occurred last week in Laupahoehoe.

Police say that on Dec. 4 at about7:50 p.m., officers received a report of a woman with numerous facial injuries at a business in Laupahoehoe. The woman told officers she had been involved in a physical domestic dispute with a family member while within their vehicle.

The woman was taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment of multiple facial contusions, lacerations and a fracture.

Police arrested and charged Zodice K. Madeyski, who made his initial appearance Monday in Hilo District Court and was ordered to return Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

He remained in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $14,000 bail.
