Through the Roots, an international touring reggae/rock band from San Diego, will headline a show Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Grand Naniloa Hotel in Hilo.

The concert will be in the hotel’s historic Willie K. Crown Room. Doors open at 8 p.m.

TTR features two Hilo musicians — bassist Ekona Ravey and keyboardist Brady O’Rear.

“Both Ekona and I are excited to be coming back to Hilo to play,” O’Rear said. “We grew up in Hilo and it’s a big part of who we are, as people and artists. It’s been a long time coming and we look forward to seeing our friends and family in the crowd.”

Likkle Jordee and Ocean Grown will open the show.

Showcasing lead singer Evan Hawkins, a San Diego native, TTR has played together for 11 years and released three CDs. The band’s newest album, “Arrival,” was released in June and debuted at No. 2 on the iTunes reggae charts.

TTR has shared the stage with many of the top bands in its genre during the past decade, including Rebelution, Iration, The Green, Soja and Tribal Seeds.

Rounding out TTR is drummer Taylor Boatwright from Temecula, Calif., and lead guitarist Corrick Watson from Waianae, Oahu.

Before heading to Hilo, TTR will play shows with Rebelution on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center and Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14-15, at The Republik in Honolulu.

Tickets for the Hilo concert are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show. Advance tickets are available online at throughtheroots.com.
