Center Stage Dance Alliance presents its 13th annual Holiday Showcase and Fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 21, in the Hilo High School Theater.
The first show at 2 p.m. features the keiki performers of Center Stage. The second show at 7 p.m. features pre-teens, teens and adults of all skill levels. The featured choreographers are instructors of Center Stage and include Pam Chong James, Vicky Robbins, Cheryl Aue, Mana Ho‘opai, Jasmine Serrano, Sarah Brinkman and James Imai.
Performers will dance to various musical artists and in all genres including hip hop, ballet, tap, contemporary, popping and break dancing. It’s always a treat for the audience to see what each choreographer will do with their dance classes, and the students at Center Stage are consistent in their incredible talent and performing skills.
This year will also feature a tap solo by long-time student Gianna Yokoe, a Hilo High junior who has danced at Center Stage since she was 5 years old.
Every holiday event includes a silent auction in which audience members will be able to bid on great adventures, products, hotel rooms and more. Center Stage Dance Alliance is a nonprofit dance alliance and is reliant on donations, fundraisers and fees to fulfill its mission of educating and mentoring East Hawaii residents, especially youth, through the art of dance.
The studio has many former students that are teaching, performing or going to universities on scholarship through their dance education. The school provides need-based work trade and regular scholarships for teens and young adults, and regular rates for classes are the lowest available on the island.
Center Stage works to make it possible for anyone who wants to dance, is able to learn to dance and to perform.
Ticket prices are $8 for the first show, $12 for the later show, and are available at Basically Books and Center Stage.
The show is expected to sell out, so buy tickets early. Any tickets left will be sold at the door.
