Police say a man was arrested Friday morning after entering at least two homes on Puia Street in Kailua-Kona.
Officers responding to a 9:03 a.m. call said in the first home the suspect entered, he encountered three residents, including a 4-year-old boy. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly picked up the child before being fended off by adults.
The suspect then fled and entered another occupied home on the same street, police said.
Police say the child was unharmed and the suspect did not remove anything from the homes he entered.
The suspect was found in the yard of a third home and arrested. He was identified as Matthew Mitsis, a 29-year-old Kailua-Kona man.
Mitsis was booked on suspicion of several offenses, including first-degree burglary. He hadn’t been charged and detectives continued to investigate as of late Friday afternoon.
