Hilo recorded a high temperature of 90 degrees Wednesday.
That’s a record for Oct. 9, eclipsing the previous high of 89 for the date set in 1979.
It’s also the sixth high temperature record in Hilo for this fall, following a summer where 16 high temperature records were tied or broken, largely because of higher-than-normal ocean surface temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
