Hilo sees record heat three consecutive days

The record heat that hit Hilo on Friday continued through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

On Sunday, the temperature at Hilo International Airport reached 89 degrees, tying the record temperature for Sept. 29 set in 2014.

On Saturday, the mercury at the airport hit 90 degrees, eclipsing the previous mark of 88 for Sept. 28 set in 2018.

And on Friday, it was a sweltering 92 degrees, breaking the old record of 90 set in 2018.
