The League of Women Voters Hawaii County is a National Voter Registration Day partner. On Sept. 24, the group will register voters at two locations on Hawaii Island:

• 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hilo Public Library.

• 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Kona Coffee &Tea.

With significant local and state elections approaching and 2020 primaries months away, every eligible voter should exercise his or her right to be heard at the ballot box this year and next.

National Voter Registration Day celebrates our democracy. It was first observed in 2012 and has grown in popularity since. It is observed the fourth Tuesday of September each year.

The observance seeks to create broad awareness of voter registration and hopes to reach tens of thousands of voters who might not register otherwise. It’s a day of civic unity, and LWV Hawaii County wants to celebrate democracy and the rights and opportunities we all share as Americans.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
