For the third year, the Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens is partnering with the Hawaii Floriculture &Nursery Association and East Hawaii Wedding Association to present a wedding vow renewal event and floral display Sept. 8 in the gardens as part of HFNA’s “Wedding Celebrations 2019.”

The display in Lili‘uokalani Gardens will feature floral designs by Gilliam and others and will celebrate the thousands of weddings that have taken place in the gardens during its 100 year history. Couples are invited to return to the gardens from noon-4 p.m. Sept. 8 to renew their marriage vows.

Anyone interested in participating can visit the HFNA website to contact the organization for additional information. You will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire: did you get married in Lili‘uokalani Gardens (not a requirement to participate), how many people are you bringing with you, etc.

Half-hour ceremony times will be assigned at one of several locations. Please be prompt.

Flowers, bouquets, minister and a photographer will be provided. Just come and enjoy the magnificent floral designs that will be created.

There is no charge to participate in this centennial event, but the Friends need an idea of who is coming for scheduling purposes. Deadline to register for the vow renewal event is Sept. 4.

HFNA also will host its final workshop in a four-part series of wedding floral design workshops from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 7 at Nani Mau Gardens in Hilo.

The workshop will be led by world-renowned floral designer Hitomi Gilliam, with a local designer. Expect beautiful demonstrations on creating impactful tropical bridal floral decor, bouquets and flowers to wear for the ceremony as well as reception venues.

Floral varieties distinctive to the Big Island will be showcased.

Attendees will also participate in an extensive hands-on portion of the workshop, where they will create beautiful tropical wedding designs with feedback and guidance from the expert team of instructors.

A Wedding Celebrations 2019 floral nursery tour also is slated for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 9. Those interested in participating should meet at the bus at Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.
