Fire inspectors and police are investigating the cause of a fire that caused more than $60,000 dollars to a downtown Hilo building Saturday morning.

Six units responded to an 8:55 a.m. alarm at 183 Keawe St., a building owned by Haili Congregational Church that houses Joseph’s Storehouse.

Firefighters made a forcible entry into the building and extinguished interior flames. A smoke ejector was used to rid the building of smoke.

During overhaul operations, the metal siding was removed from the exterior and a hole cut into the floor to extinguish remaining fire extension in the inaccessible post and pier foundation.

A fire investigator arrived on scene to try to determine the cause of the fire and eventually turned the scene over to police who remained on scene to secure the premises.

The fire was reported under control at 9 a.m. and extinguished at 9:05 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
