Hot temperatures have recently broken records in Hilo.

On Sunday, a record-high temperature of 88 degrees broke the old record of 87 for that day, which was set in 1974, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

And on Monday, a temperature of 89 degrees broke the record of 88 degrees set for that day in 2015.

The NWS said moderate to breezy trade winds will continue through the weekend, delivering clouds and showers to windward areas while most leeward areas will remain mostly dry.

A small craft advisory is in effect through Sunday for typically windy waters around Maui and the Big Island.

A surface trough about 1,000 miles east-southeast of the Big Island is producing “limited shower and thunderstorm activity,” forecasters from the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said.

There is a low likelihood — 30 percent — the system could develop into a cyclone over the next five days.
