Jose “Joe” Calica, 77, of Mountain View died July 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, he was a retired U.S. Army 1st sergeant and Vietnam War veteran, junior ROTC and ROTC instructor at Hilo High School and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Visitation 8:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire; flowers and lei welcome. Noon burial with military honors at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.
