Household hazardous waste collection events are scheduled for between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on the following new dates and new locations:

• Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Francis Wong baseball stadium parking lot (entry via Manono Street).

• Saturday, Aug. 10, in the Kealakehe High School parking lot (entry via Pu‘ohulihuli Street).

The county Department of Environmental Management hosts these regular collection events, at no charge to the public, so households can conveniently dispose of acceptable household hazardous waste in a manner that protects public health and the environment.

These events are for household-generated and self-hauled waste only. Business, government agency, nonprofit agency or farm wastes are not allowed. No latex paint, no electronic waste and no tires will be accepted.

Acceptable household hazardous waste includes:

• automotive fluids,

• used batteries,

• fluorescent bulbs

• and pesticides.

Reusable latex paint will be not be accepted at these events.

For a more complete list of acceptable or unacceptable household hazardous waste, visit www.hawaiizerowaste.org /recycle/household-hazardous-waste/. The website includes other useful information about solid waste diversion and recycling.

If you are unable to attend these collection events, the next scheduled collection events for Hilo and Kealakehe will be in February 2020.

Any questions regarding these collection events should be directed to Chris Chin-Chance, recycling specialist with Environmental Management, at 961-8554 or email recycle3@hawaiicounty.gov.
