Director Jerry Tracy recently announced audition details for Aloha Theatre’s fall production of the comedy “Beyond Therapy” by Christopher Durang.

Auditions are slated for 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 5-6, at Damron Hall, the building adjacent to the Aloha Theatre parking lot in Kainaliu. A possible invitational callback audition might be scheduled at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8.

Candidates should arrive at 5:45 p.m., if possible, to fill out paperwork and expect to stay at least two hours. Newcomers are encouraged to audition.

Each person auditioning needs to prepare a one- to three-minute memorized comic monologue or share a one- to three-minute personal story relating to one of these subjects: psychological therapy or therapists, the dating scene, sexuality or former significant others. Auditions also will consist of cold readings from the script.

Reading the play before auditions is recommended. Copies are available at the Aloha Theatre office. Call to arrange for a checkout.

Production dates are weekends from Sept. 27-Oct. 13.

Tony award winning playwright Christopher Durang wrote “Beyond Therapy” in 1983, and Aloha Theatre’s production will be set in that year. It is a satirical sendup of the therapy industry, dating and sexuality. All roles are available.

A “Beyond Therapy” boot camp is slated for 2-5 p.m. July 27 to prepare those interested in auditioning. Attendees will be asked to do cold readings from the script. Participants are also asked to bring a monologue on which to work.

The cast will initially meet twice, Aug 12-13, for paperwork, introductory activities and a read through. Regular rehearsals will commence Aug. 19, and generally will be conducted Sunday afternoons and Monday through Thursday evenings. Cast members must be available for the entire rehearsal schedule with a minimum of conflicts, and must commit to the entire performance run.
