Elks National Foundation announces MVS scholar

Members of Hilo Elks Lodge recently presented a $4,000 scholarship to Waiakea Highs School senior Mira Odaira during the school’s Senior Awards Night.

Odaira was a valedictorian of the Waiakea High School class of 2019. She plans to attend the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

The Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to high school seniors nationwide who plan to pursue four-year degrees on a full-time basis. Each year, 500 awards are given, with a total disbursement of more than $2.4 million.

Judging is based on academic excellence, community service and financial need.
