Speak out

I have just written to a number of Republican senators and to many of the candidates running for the Democratic nomination for president to address the credible accusation by E. Jean Carrol that she was sexually assaulted by Donald Trump in 1995.

This accusation was corroborated by two women. Yet, very few Republicans in Congress have said anything about this. Sen. Lindsey Graham did comment about this, however, and said President Trump denied this accusation, and he believes him. So Sen. Graham is calling E. Jean Carrol and the women who corroborated her story liars.

President Trump denied having an affair with the porn star Stormy Daniels and denied paying her hush money in 2016. Logically then, Sen. Graham and other Republican members of Congress believe that what the president says about this is also true. I wonder if the readers of the Tribune-Herald believe this to be true?

There seems to be a double standard when it comes to the allegations of sexual misconduct and assault that have been leveled at Donald Trump. Sen. Al Franken had to resign because of conduct that didn’t come close to what President Trump has been accused of doing. Other individuals in government, business and the media were fired or resigned after being accused of credible charges of sexual assault. Yet, Donald Trump, who said in the “Access Hollywood” video that he attacks women, isn’t being held accountable for this accusation.

Women are not only being physically assaulted, but their character is being attacked and their reputations impugned by President Trump.

I do not belong to any political party and would be just as upset if a president who was a Democrat was accused of sexual assault, and I would ask the same question. If this allegation were made by your daughter, sister, mother or wife, would you remain silent or speak out?

Trailer problem

If authorities are clamping down on overly tinted vehicle windows, then they should also be clamping down on privately owned trailers that are without license plates, tax emblems, safety stickers and, most importantly, no brake lights.

Just about every trailer is black in color, making it difficult to tell when the driver ahead of you who is pulling a trailer is slowing down or coming to a stop. This scenario is especially dangerous at night, during rains on many of Hilo’s roadways that are dimly lit.

Kudos to those who already comply with trailer regulations.
