Dean’s list honors announced at Tufts

Tufts University recently announced its dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester.

Among students earning dean’s list honors are Anna Morita of Kailua-Kona, a freshman, and Maia Tarnas of Waimea, who is a senior.

Dean’s list honors require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

Pike named to Hamilton dean’s list

Sabrina Pike of Kailua-Kona was named to the dean’s list at Hamilton College for the 2019 spring semester.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have carried throughout the semester a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or higher.

Pike, a rising senior majoring in archaeology and creative writing, is a graduate of Kealakehe High School.

Students graduate from Azusa Pacific University

The following Big Island students graduated from Azusa Pacific University in May:

• Elijah Cacal, Spencer Todd and Aidan Alcos of Kailua-Kona and Po‘Okela Hanato-Smith of Kealakekua each received bachelor or science degrees.

• Tiara Martino of Hilo and Acacia Trusdell of Keaau each received bachelor of arts degrees.

Berdon graduates from U of Iowa

Randall Berdon of Kealakekua was one of more than 4,800 undergraduate, graduate and professional students to participate in graduation ceremonies in May at the University of Iowa. Berdon earned a masters degree in mechanical engineering.

Big Isle students graduate from USD

Josiah Adams of Kapaau graduated in May from the University of San Diego, receiving a bachelor’s degree in communication studies. Adams participated in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps at USD and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant ensign in the U.S. Marine Corps. He will report to The Basic School at Marine Corps Base in Quantico, V.

Kauanoe Petrill-Abrojina of Ocean View also graduated in May from USD, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Minami named to Simpson dean’s list

Nathan Minami of Mountain View was named to the dean’s list at Simpson University for the spring 2019 semester. He is majoring is pre-nursing.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must have a semester grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.

Yamaguchi earns master’s degree from George Fox University

Jessica Yamaguchi of Hilo was among more than 900 undergraduate, adult degree and graduate-level students who received diplomas from George Fox University this spring. She earned a master of arts in school counseling.

Matsuda graduates from Carleton College

Daniel Matsuda of Waimea graduated from Carleton College earlier this month. He studied Asian studies and earned a bachelor of arts degree.
