KAILUA-KONA — A 34-year-old woman is recovering from injuries she suffered in an apparent shooting incident early Friday morning on Mana Road in Waimea.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, South Kohala patrol officers responded to a 911 call seeking assistance for a woman who might have been shot in Waimea.

Police investigating the incident say the apparent shooting occurred on Mana Road, and the victim and her companion left the area, driving in the direction of Waimea.

Officers located the victim, who was accompanied by a 35-year-old man, in a parking lot off of Mamalahoa Highway.

Police said the woman suffered wounds to her upper body that appeared to be consistent with the type of injury that could be caused by shotgun pellets.

She was treated for her injuries at an undisclosed location.

Police declined to provide any additional details, including the extent of injuries or the woman’s condition.

The man with her was uninjured.

Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section are continuing the investigation and plan to release more information in the coming days. Police said persons of interest are being contacted.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Detective Corina McLellan of the Area II Criminal Investigation Section, at 326-4646, ext. 227, or via email at corina.mclellan@hawaiicounty.gov.
