KAILUA-KONA — Big Island Drug Court participants spent the last day of National Drug Court Month in May giving back to the community.

About 30 West Hawaii participants collected money and food for The Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank, on Friday afternoon at KTA Super Stores in Kailua-Kona. In addition to manning a tent fronting the store, participants worked motorists for donations to support the nonprofit organization.

“It’s a wonderful agency that helps people in early recovery,” said Grayson Hashida, Big Island Drug Court coordinator. “It’s nice for them to actually give back to a program that helped them.”
