Firefighters douse brush fire north of Old Kona Airport Park

KAILUA-KONA — No injuries were reported after a small brush fire burned an area north of the runway at Old Kona Airport Park on Friday.

West Hawaii Battalion Chief Bill Bergin said the fire occurred in the area of a homeless camp. There were no permanent structures in the area.

The fire began sometime before 2:30 p.m.

The park remained open throughout the incident and no parkgoers appeared to be in the immediate area of the blaze.

The fire was extinguished within two hours.
