Join authors Joseph Harrington and Susan M. Schultz for an evening of poetry at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Volcano Art Center’s Ni‘aulani Campus in Volcano Village.

Harrington will read from his books, “Of Some Sky, new ghost pieces,” and “Things Come On (an amneoir),” a mixed-genre work relating the twinned narratives of the Watergate scandal and his mother’s cancer.

Schultz will read from her books “The Viewpoint is Presumption,” a collection of doctored Trump tweets, and from her forthcoming book, “I Want to Write an Honest Sentence.”

The evening will be a unique opportunity to discuss poetry and hear the poets read their work as they share their powerful stories.

Harrington is the author of “Of Some Sky;” “Things Come On (an amneoir); “Goodnight Whoever’s Listening” and the critical work “Poetry and the Public.”

His creative work has appeared in BAX: Best American Experimental Writing 2016, The Rumpus, Hotel America, Tupelo Quarterly, and elsewhere.

He teaches at the University of Kansas (Lawrence).

Schultz is a professor of English at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and has lived in Hawaii since 1990. She is the author of many books and chapbooks of poetry and poetic prose, including two volumes of “Dementia Blog” and others of “Memory Cards.” She has also authored a book of literary criticism and edited two others. She founded Tinfish Press, which publishes experimental poetry from the Pacific, in 1995. Tinfish’s website is www.tinfishpress.com.

Susan lives in Temple Valley with her husband, two kids and three animals.

This evening is part of a once-a-month Thursday night series at the Volcano Art Center, focusing on art, Hawaiian culture and the environment. The series is intended to inspire, enhance your appreciation of art and life experience, while fostering community connections.

This presentation is free, although a $5 donation is greatly appreciated. Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus is located at 19-4074 Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village.

The Volcano Art Center is a non-profit educational organization created in 1974 to promote, develop, and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of Hawaii’s people and environment through activities in the visual, literary, and performing arts. Please visit www.volcanoartcenter.org.
