Alan Yoshio Akine, 74, of Hilo died Feb. 11, at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, he was a retired businessman, U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Private services held. Survived by son, Mark Akine of Hilo; sister, Alice (Rodney) Takahashi of Kapaa, Kauai; sisters-in-law, Betty Akine and Diane Akine of Hilo; a grandson; nieces and nephews. Emiko Fujie, 92, of Hilo died Feb. 9 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired bookkeeper for Garden Exchange and member of Hilo Meishoin Mission. Private services held. Leona Ann Toler, 69, of Hilo died Feb. 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired billing clerk for Yamada &Sons, former waitress and hula dancer for Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay Hotel and a former switchboard operator for the former Hawaiian Tel.
