BIIF boys basketball: HPA downs Kamehameha; Waiakea beats Konawaena

Valentinas Ulinas scored 22 points Thursday night and Hawaii Prep beat Kamehameha 63-54 in Waimea, remaining unbeaten to clinch the top seed in Division II and dropping the Warriors into a fourth place tie in Division I.

Izayah Chartrand-Penera powered the Warriors with 30 points. Kamehameha and Keaau are both 5-6 with regular-season finales on tap at home against Parker. If the teams finish with the same record, a play-in game will be held Feb. 8 at Kamehameha’s Koaia Gym (Keaau hosted the regular-season matchup, a 60-59 win Jan. 16).

Michael Hughes and KJ Walker each added 10 points for HPA (11-0), which jumped out to a 32-15 lead at halftime. Ka Makani is half-game ahead of Kohala and can clinch an automatic state berth with a win in their regular season finale Wednesday.

Waiakea 64, Konawaena 58: The Warriors (10-1) won on the road, securing an automatic berth to state Division I tournament as the outright regular season champion.

While Waiakea will the draw the No. 4 seed at the BIIF semifinals Feb. 12 at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, the Wildcats (6-5) will take on Hilo.
