Born in St. Louis, he was a retired union carpenter Local #2214, U.S. Navy World War II veteran, past master of Beacon Lodge No. 3 in Hazelwood, Mo., 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, Valley of Hilo Orient of Hawaii, Eastern Star, Pomegranate Chapter and Yorkrite Council. Private services held, with interment at National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Survived by wife, Josephine Astel of Pevely; sons, Arthur (Mary) Astel of Pensacola, Fla., Matthew Astel, Mark Astel of Glenwood and Steve (Benlynne) Astel of Kurtistown; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Donald D.K. Kim, 91, of Hilo died Dec. 10 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired maintenance supervisor for Aloha Airlines and member of Tenth Hole Golf Club.
