Current, former and prospective members, as well as the general public, are invited to join the League of Women Voters of Hawaii County to hear Douglass Shipman Adams, chairman of the Hawaii County Charter Commission, speak during the league’s meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Tex Drive In, 45-690 Pakalana St. in Honokaa.
The LWV meeting starts with registration at 9:45 a.m., with a welcome and call to order for the business meeting and program planning session at 10 a.m.
The talk by Adams will start promptly at 11 a.m. A no-host luncheon follows his talk, followed by the board meeting.
Adams will present information about the work of the commission to revise the county charter. He chairs the 11-member commission, which is required to meet every 10 years to review the charter and recommend proposed amendments.
Adams is a retired Army officer who lives in Hilo with his wife, Deb Lewis. He serves as vice-chair of the board of W.H. Shipman and is a member of the Hawaii State Bar.
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
