Shirley Ruth Coney, 89, of Pahoa died Nov. 24 at home. Born in Taft, Calif., she was a retired laboratory technologist and former member of the Kaneohe Yacht Club & Deck Hands on Oahu. Private services held. Survived by son, William Ha‘alelea Coney of Waimea, John Patrick (Janet) Coney of Volcano; daughters, Katherine “Kitty” Lee Coney and Jill Marie Coney of Pahoa, Shirley Kaikilani Burrows of Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Katherine “Kitty” Molony of Santa Barbara, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carol June Callison Ewing, 71, of Hilo died Nov. 1 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hammond, Ind., she was a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship, a parent community networking facilitator at Hilo Union School, proprietor of The Plant Lady: Green Plant Rentals, secretary for Indiana State Police Department, clerk typist at Kulani Correctional Facility, and an avid crafter and gardener. Private services to be held at a later date. Survived by daughter, Kimberly Callison.

George Gomes Sr., 78, of Hilo, formerly of Honokaa, died Nov. 17 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Honkaa, he was a retired plantation worker for Paauilo Experiment Station, worked for UAL catering at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, and was a lifetime cowboy. Memorial service Friday (Dec. 14) at St. Joseph Church in Hilo. Visitation at 9 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. followed by internment at Homelani Memorial Park. David Lewis Hubbard, 62, of Pepeekeo died Dec. 2 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Colorado, he was a fine artist and teacher. Memorial service 2 p.m. Dec. 16 at Hilo Fine Art Center in Keaau, 16-643 Kipimana St., Suite 14. Survived by mother, Wilma L. Hubbard; brothers, Steven L. Hubbard and Ronald L. Isamu Maedo, 96, of Hilo died Nov. 20 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Ninole, he was the retired owner of the former Maedo Guava Farm, retired from the University of Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station as an agricultural research technician and member of Toho No Hikari (Church of World Messianity), Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hui Okinawa and HGEA. Private services held. Survived by sons, Clifford Maedo of Hilo, Dale Maedo of Kapolei, Oahu; daughter, Ann Maedo of Hilo; brothers, Minoru (Doris) Maedo and Shigeo Maedo of California; sister, Betty (Matsuo) Okamoto of Kaneohe, Oahu; caregiver, Arcelie Weaver of Hilo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine Hiroko Takayama, 81, of Hilo died Nov. 14 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Hilo, she retired from a career in sales with the former Liberty House and Macy’s. Momoe Yamamoto, 93, of Honokaa died Dec. 2 at a private care home in Honokaa. Born in Kukuihaele, she was a retired head accountamt for the former Hamakua Sugar Company, member of the Honokaa Hongwanji Mission and Kamuela Hongwanji Mission and its Buddhist Women’s Associations. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Honokaa Hongwanji Mission. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by son, Keith Yamamoto of Honolulu; sister, Jane (Shiro) Higaki of Oahu; sisters-in-law, Eiko Matsumura of Japan, Patsy Matsumura of Denver; one granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
