The state Department of Education is seeking bids for mold remediation in Keaau High School’s Building E.

DOE spokeswoman Sherie Char said mold was discovered in some of the high school’s classrooms at the beginning of the academic year.

“School officials were in the process of identifying the extent of the mold but efforts were delayed when an excessive amount of rain from Hurricane Lane flooded the rooms,” she said in an email.

One classroom was cleared for use, and two others are in need of mold mitigation efforts.

According to Char, these areas are not being used by students and staff, and mold is not a concern in any other campus buildings.

Bids are due back by 4:30 p.m. Dec. 13.
