Guest director Miguel Montez recently announced the cast for the next production at Kealakekua’s Aloha Theatre, “A Christmas Story,” which will run from Fridays through Sundays, Nov. 30-Dec. 16.
The play is an adaptation of the beloved 1983 holiday family comedy film of the same name, which itself is based on the humorous semi-autobiographical writings of Jean Shepard. Ralph Parker recounts the story of his 10-year-old self and his quest to obtain the perfect Christmas gift, a Red Ryder BB gun, amid warnings that “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.”
Maximus Wisniewski will portray Ralphie, the play’s protagonist. David Johnson is adult Ralph, the play’s narrator and voice of Ralphie’s inner thoughts.
Caiden Mireles plays little brother Randy. Their parents are played by Kendra Johnson and Robb Dahlke, as Mother and The Old Man. Ralphie’s classmates and best friends are Schwartz, played by Colton Clarke, and Flick, played by John Palmer. Cameron Cornforth will take on the role of the school bully, Scut Farkas.
The other females in the show are Miss Shields, the children’s schoolteacher, portrayed Tessa Miller; the friendly Esther Jane, played by Taira Aoki; and her brainiac best friend, Helen, played by Zoe Matias.
The ensemble comprises an additional seven players: Brad Lee Aoki, Daisy Hollinger, Kai Hollinger, Tyra Iaela, Fletcher Johnson, Umi Radcliffe-Suzuki and Hannah White.
Montez is a veteran of numerous Aloha Theatre productions and also serves as a theatre board member. Sarah El Ebiary is assistant director and stage manager.
The volunteer production team is comprised of Michael Friedman, volunteer producer; Gerald Lucena, set designer; Victor Lugo, master builder; Raisa Klyne, costume designer; Linda Rowand, props designer; Jeff Rowand, lighting designer; Clara Gray-Stallings, sound designer; Tyra Iaela, assistant stage manager; Vincent Hicks, stage crew; and Karen Hollinger, who will assist as parent volunteer coordinator.
Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and young adults and $10 for children.
Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
