The Associated Press has projected Gov. David Ige, a Democrat, will win re-election over Republican state Rep. Andria Tupola.

Ige and his running mate for lieutenant governor, Josh Green of Kailua-Kona, were ahead of their GOP challengers by a wide margin after the first statewide election results were released this evening.

In Hawaii’s congressional races, U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and former Rep. Ed Case all appeared headed for easy victories following early election returns.
