Kalson Mokuola Akiona, 39, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 8. Visitation 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at West Hawaii Community Health Center, 74-5214 Keanalehu Dr., Kailua-Kona. Celebration of life at 10:30 a.m. Lunch and fellowship to follow. Earl Elmer Bakken, 94, of North Kona died Oct. 21 at his home. Born in Minneapolis, he was co-founder and senior chairman of Medtronic Inc., inventor of the world’s first battery-operated, transistorized external wearable pacemaker, founded the Bakken Museum and co-founded the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting in Minneapolis, helped found North Hawaii Community Hospital, was a fellow of the Bakken Society, honorary Fellow of Biomedical Engineering Society, member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, National Academy of Engineering, Society of Heart-Brain Medicine, North Hawaii Rotary Club, Board Chairman, Friends of the Future, and U.S. Army Air Force veteran. Private services. Memorial donations to: Bakken Museum, Pavek Museum, University of Minnesota Foundation, North Hawaii Community Hospital, Friends of the Future, Kohala Center, Five Mountains Hawaii (Kipuka O Ke Ola) and Na Kalai Waa (Makalii Voyaging Canoe). Christine Mae Peters, 60, of Pahoa, formerly of Southborough, Mass., died Oct. 15 in Hilo. She was a laboratory technician at Brigham &Women’s Hospital in Boston and Maui Memorial Hospital, Penn State alumna, artist and gamer. Private services. Veronica Rivera Yadao, 85, of Paauilo died Oct. 20 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, she was a retired waitress for Hilton Waikoloa Resort and member of St. Columba’s Episcopal Church.
