HHSAA volleyball: Konawaena, HPA swept in quarterfinals

A pair of ILH teams put up monster stats and swept HHSAA Division II regulars Konawaena and Hawaii Prep in the first round Wednesday on Oahu.

Sacred Hearts hit a blistering .324 and trounced the Wildcats 25-7, 25-15, 25-12 while Damien clobbered balls at a .458 clip and ripped Ka Makani 25-13, 25-6, 25-8.

Maile Grace had 6 kills, and Keala Acol added five kills for Konawaena (10-9), which hit .022 and surrendered 12 aces. Kailee Llanes-Kelekolio had 12 digs.

Ryanne Burnett had 14 kills and hit .306 to lead the Lancers (10-4), the ILH’s No. 4 team, which had far more kills, 43-14.

Gemma Palleschi had six kills for Ka Makani (12-7), which finished with a .074 hitting percentage. Jenna Perry had 12 digs.

Konawaena, which has been to states eight straight years, and HPA, which has qualified the last 13 times, will play consolation matches at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

No. 3 seed and BIIF champion Kohala (14-4) plays Damien (14-2), the ILH runner-up, in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Thursday.

In the Division I quarterfinals, No. 4 seed and BIIF champion Hilo ( 16-1) plays OIA runner-up Kahuku (13-2) at 5 p.m. while BIIF runner-up Kamehameha-Hawaii plays No. 2 seed and OIA champion Mililani (13-0) at 5 p.m.
