The U.S. Coast Guard and Hawaii Fire Department rescued a swimmer Friday in Maihi Bay.

The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Oliver Berry pulled the swimmer, who was suffering from a severe leg cramp, out of the water and brought him to awaiting emergency services at Keauhou Bay pier.

The 17-year-old boy was about 50 yards offshore. Five other swimmers helped keep him afloat but weren’t able to bring him to shore.

The cutter was anchored off Kailua-Kona and launched a small boat with a rescue team to help.
