Alexander “Alex” Balberde, 83, of Fairfax, Va., died May 26 at Fairfax Hospital. Born in Honomu, he grew up on the Big Island, was a graduate of Saint Joseph’s High School in Hilo and Santa Clara University in California and a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a helicopter pilot in Korea, Vietnam and Europe. Funeral services held. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors to be at a later date. Survived by wife, Diane; sons, Steve (Eileen), Mike, Jeff (Leigh) and Matt (Heather); six grandchildren.
Trineice C.R. Mancuso, 18, of Ocean View died Oct. 3 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Lebanon, Ore., she was a student at Ka‘u High School.
