An Ironman athlete appeared to be fine following a collision with a vehicle while cycling Tuesday near the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.

The athlete, 50, who is from Australia, was reportedly traveling southbound along Queen Kaahumanu Highway at about 7 a.m. when the collision occurred with a northbound vehicle being driven by a Kona man, 66, who was turning left into the resort.

Hawaii Police Department Maj. Robert Wagner said police determined the vehicle to be at fault and said the cyclist was “walking around” and “appeared to be fine.”

He couldn’t say whether the driver was cited, but said in these types of incidents they typically are not.
