Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center honors two outstanding employees, Genesis Berona, a certified nursing assistant who, in addition to his duties at Legacy Hilo, serves in the Hawaii Army Reserve, and Janice Lee, Legacy Hilo activities director and scheduling supervisor, who won the Patriot Award for supporting Berona as he actively serves in the military.

The nation has relied heavily on National Guard and Reserve members since entering continuous operations for more than 14 years. The Department of Defense’s Patriot Award honors the sacrifices made by so many employers year after year. Legacy Hilo is a strong supporter of our men and women in uniform.

The Army Reserve takes Berona away from his work duties at Legacy Hilo for one weekend each month and one month each year for training. He is the solider who nominated Lee for the award, which was presented to her Sept. 25 by Donna Shimizu, ESGR representative.

Lee handles the scheduling of licensed nurses and CNAs at Legacy Hilo.

“I love helping our residents and staff to work together,” she said. “Genesis is a gentleman, always positive and cheerful. He is an ideal employee and we are glad to have him.”
