Police have identified a 25-year-old Ninole man who was killed after a three-vehicle collision in Kailua-Kona Saturday.

John Krasovskiy was pronounced dead at North Hawaii Community Hospital at 4:45 p.m. Saturday after striking a tanker truck head-on near mile marker 17 on Highway 190.

According to a police report, Krasovskiy’s Nissan sedan lost traction on the wet road, hydroplaning into the oncoming northbound lane, where it sideswiped a pickup truck and then struck a northbound tanker truck head-on.

Two other occupants of Krasovskiy’s vehicle were transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital for minor injuries. Three occupants of the pickup truck and the sole occupant of the tanker truck were treated at the scene for their own minor injuries.

Police believe weather conditions and speed to be factors in the crash, although an autopsy will determine the exact cause of Krasovskiy’s death.

This is Hawaii County’s 25th traffic fatality this year, compared to 26 at this time last year.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the investigating officer at (808) 326-4646 ext. 229.
