Police arrested and charged a 28-year-old Pahoa man on Friday for theft and drug offenses after he allegedly stole a cellphone from a vehicle.

Ryan Vanstralen was charged with unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle, theft, promotion of a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia. He was being detained on $10,000 bail pending his initial court appearance.

According to police, a man identified Vanstralen as the man who reached in his vehicle to take a cellphone, while the man was sitting in the car Friday afternoon on Church Road in Nanawale Estates subdivision.

While officers were investigating the incident, Vanstralen returned to the scene and he was arrested. Police said Vanstralen had methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
