Motorcyclist dies after collision in Ocean View

A 28-year-old Ocean View man died Sunday after his motorcycle broadsided a pickup truck near the 83-mile marker of Highway 11 in Ocean View, police said.

Police identified the man as Devin Miles.

Officers responding to a 11:22 a.m. call determined that a silver 2007 Toyota pickup truck was attempting to make a left turn into a private road off the northbound lane from the southbound shoulder the highway when struck by Miles, who was riding his blue 2009 Honda motorcycle south.

The pickup truck’s driver, identified in a police log as 62-year-old David Arthurs of Holualoa, was taken to Kona Community Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained from the collision.

Miles was also taken to the Kona hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:59 p.m.

A negligent homicide investigation has been initiated and an autopsy has been ordered.

Miles’ death is the 22nd official traffic fatality this year, compared to 26 at this time last year.
