Dr. Emilie Stickley has taken the reigns at the medical school faculty practice on Puuhonu, following Dr. John Uohara’s recent retirement.

Stickley is a University Health Partners of Hawaii physician and member of the faculty at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine Department of OB/GYN and Women’s Health. She will continue Uohara’s work, offering high-quality obstetrics and gynecological patient care to the Hilo area.

Stickley received her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown Township, home to less that 10,000 people. She completed her residency training in OB/GYN in 2009 at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu and then served as a field surgeon in Afghanistan along with the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. In 2013, she returned to Oahu as a OB/GYN physician at the Pali Women’s Health Center and began her work as an Assistant Clinical Professor for JABSOM.

When the opportunity to relocate to Hilo was offered, she jumped at the chance to return to her rural roots, along with her family of six.

“There are so many in this community who are committed and give back in a variety of ways” Stickley said. “I am so excited to be a part of it and to be able to step into a role that will allow me to give so much as well.”

Stickley is the second UHP/JABSOM faculty physician placed in Hilo. The first was Dr. Kareem Khozaim in early 2017, who has been working out of the Hilo Bay Clinic.
