An inmate made an unauthorized exit from the Hale Nani Reintegration Center in Hilo Tuesday morning.
According to a written Department of Public Safety statement, Michael Blanco was spotted walking out of the facility on the southern outskirts of Hilo just before 2 a.m.
Blanco reportedly ran when security staff told him to stop. A pursuit was unsuccessful, so police were notified.
Blanco is 42 years old, is 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair, but might have a shaved head.
Blanco was convicted of promotion of a dangerous drug. His next parole hearing was scheduled for December.
