VOLCANO! STORYTELLING WITH FINE ART DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

Details: The Hilo Photography Club welcomes long-time Puna resident and professional photographer Harry Durgin. Durgin will describe with narrative and images, his efforts to reveal the drama and tragedies of the latest Kilauea eruption that impacted Big Island’s Puna district. Utilizing precision optics and camera equipment, along with his compositional and post processing skills, Harry Durgin has captured and created fine art images that transcend more traditional documentary photography. A wide range of images captured both on the ground and in the air will be presented. The Hilo Photography Club meets at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Kamana Senior Center, 127 Kamana Street, Hilo. (Due to a scheduling conflict, the September meeting will be the second Wednesday of the month.) Admission is free and light refreshments are served at intermission. STAINED GLASS BASICS II: EXTERIOR LAMP PROJECT

Details: Students will take an off-the-shelf exterior light fixture and replace its existing glass with flat panels constructed during class. This is home decor with a personalized touch. HURRICANE LANE HILO BAYFRONT TRASH CLEAN-UP & INTERNATIONAL
Coastal Clean-up Day

Details: Surfrider Foundation Hilo Chapter will be hosting a coastal clean-up of the Hilo Bayfront. We will be meeting at the halaus by the canoe clubs on Hilo Bayfront and walking the coast to remove plastic debris. International Coastal Cleanup Day, which was started 30 years ago, is held each year in over 100 countries around the world to remove human sourced rubbish from beaches. This year the Surfrider Foundation Hilo Chapter is focusing on clean-up after the record breaking rainfall and flooding from Hurricane Lane on the Big Island. Come malama ‘aina and kai, join a community of stewards and learn about the special hydrology of Keaukaha from local experts. Bags and gloves will be provided. Afterwards volunteers are invited to join in small pupus and beverages on the beach. Please bring your own cup and plate to enter our raffle.
