Highway 19 is down to one lane only Labor Day weekend as road crews repave the highway between Wailuku Bridge and Waiaama Stream in Pepeekeo.

Because of the ongoing roadwork, traffic is delayed on Highway 19, with some reports claiming southbound traffic is backed up all the way to Honomu.

The roadwork will carry on each day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the Labor Day weekend. Alternating lane closures will keep the highway open at all times, although significant traffic delays should be expected.

Other weekend roadwork on the Big Island will take place between mile markers 117 and 119 on Highway 11 in North Kona for repaving work, and on Highway 11 near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park due to damage caused by the recent eruption of Kilauea volcano.
