Course of action needed

I am asking for an explanation as to why our government has not decided on a course of action to resolve the dilemma of the Leilani eruption evacuees. Many home owners have been evacuated by government edict and not allowed back to live in their homes.

What is their timeline to solve this issue equitably so that life can resume for these displaced people?

Many have only the equity in their homes to rely on and others cannot pay their existing mortgage and pay rent for a temporary home. Some assistance is available but not enough to make these families whole again.

Beloved pets have been displaced along with everyday lives disrupted. Please resolve this issue.

Don’t wait to register

If you are not yet registered to vote and can do so by the general election, for goodness sake, do it before election day!

Registering to vote that same day turned out to be a debacle in Puna at the Pahoa Community Center.

Thank you, poll workers

Yesterday I was chairing a voting station with Bob, Steven, Charles, Sherry, Marie, Amelia, Deborah, Ronald and Suzanne.

Right before opening the polls to voters I was to read a pledge.

I started, “We honor and support the Constitution of the United States.” I think constitutions are as valuable as democracy, and I was so surprised I felt like crying in awe.

So I stopped reading.

The workers repeated what I had said and in unison the made me smile. I continued, “We honor the Constitution of Hawaii.” I choked up again and they loudly repeated what I said.

There were voters waiting outside who saw and heard this.

What a glorious way to open the polls to the voters. I want to thank our poll workers and all across Hawaii nei.

Vehicle disposal

I recently had need to dispose of a vehicle, which I did for $375. I did shop around and found little difference in the amount I would be charged. The fee included two components: towing and disposal.

That the government program is paying $680 per vehicle for disposal alone is a definite misappropriation of taxpayer money.
